Atopic Dermatitis, also known as Eczema, is a skin condition characterized by rashes of itchy and red areas of the skin. It is common in children, but can also affect adults throughout the rest of their lives.
Currently, there is no permanent cure for atopic dermatitis or eczema.
There is a chance that skin infections could occur as a result of scratching too much at the rash caused by atopic dermatitis.
The rash may also develop bumps or blisters that may be filled with oozing fluid and crust over. If this type of infection occurs it is also known as an acute rash. These may only last a few weeks.
On the other end of the spectrum, a subacute rash is one that is characterized by a dry, scaly, and itchy patch of skin. Typically these tend to last for a longer amount of time.
Depending on the severity of a person’s symptoms, there are different medications available to treat atopic dermatitis or eczema.
Most cases of atopic dermatitis or eczema are due to an allergic reaction. To test this, a person may go to a doctor to get an allergy test. This test may help determine what may be caused your atopic dermatitis to react or flare up.
If there is a certain allergen, like a food such as nuts, dairy or eggs, it is recommended that it be removed from your diet as soon as possible.
If it is an environmental allergen then the best thing to do is to avoid it as much as one can.
It is recommended to record and observe your symptoms during the process of removing the allergen.
A doctor may also prescribe topical ointments or creams that will have certain steroids which will help to reduce the annoying attributes of atopic dermatitis or eczema.
